The Cycle of Each Day

Psalm 104:19-24

“In the morning the unformed becomes form and by evening sinks back into formlessness. The bright polarity of light dissolves into unity with the darkness. Living sound grows silent in the stillness of the night.”

—CREATION AND FALL

Life has its rhythm of day and night, spring and summer, and birth and death. There is also a time to be still and a time to act. In the cycle of each new day hurrying to meet evening’s dark caress, we have a reminder, not only of the reality of time and the limited nature of our own life, but also of the joy of new beginnings. More particularly, the genius of the Old Testament concept of time is that it begins with evening and with rest and issues into the activity of the next day.

Thought
God worked and then rested. His gift to us is that we rest first and then embrace the activity of each new day
