Compassion for the Suffering
John 12:8
“The thesis that innocent sick life may be properly destroyed in the interest of healthy life … springs from the superhuman endeavour to free human society from what appears to be meaningless disease.”
—ETHICS
Just as we will always have the poor with us, those with disabilities will always be part of the human community. The way in which we are to respond to persons with a disability is not to be one of pity or of isolation. Instead, our approach should be one of empowerment where they have the opportunity, with support and encouragement, to experience the risks and challenges of life and thereby grow to their full potential.
Thought
Care must not simply keep people safe, but must encourage them to risk and growth.
