The Fruit of Our Labor Is a Gift

Genesis 3:17

“Thus the fruits of the field become both the bread which we eat with tears and the bread of charity of him who sustains us.”

—CREATION AND FALL

Life in the world is refractory and our work is marked by difficulty. The good which we seek to do bears its fruit, but also has, at times, unintended and negative consequences. Yet from our labor we do reap some reward. This must never be regarded as our right, but must be seen as a gift from God who providentially cares for us.

Thought
In our daily labor there are some things which we have to wrestle into being, while at other times that which we thought would be almost impossible just falls into place. For the latter, we can only thank God for His gift of creativity, and for the former, the blessing of perseverance.
