The Power of Desire
Acts 8:17-20
“With irresistible power, desire seizes mastery over the flesh … it makes no difference whether it is sexual desire, or ambition, or vanity, or desire for revenge, or love of fame and power, or greed for money.”
—TEMPTATION
Desire is a strong unfulfilled longing that drives us to attain what we believe we need or should have. As such, it is a potentially creative force. It can move us out of the unsatisfactory nature of the present into the hope of a more fulfilled future. But desire can also become a dominating power that drives us to achieve at any cost. It can move us to grasp for that which should be undesirable: revenge, greed, and fame. Human desire, therefore, must always operate within the framework of God’s will.
Thought
To desire to do God’s will is the greatest way we can be creatively motivated, for God’s will is never law, but the way of freedom He holds before us.
