The Good Life
Psalm 144:12-13
“Many earnest Christians are struck as they pray the Psalms by how often the petition for life and good fortune occurs.”
—PSALMS: THE PRAYER BOOK OF THE BIBLE
The Psalms speak of many things: the worship of God, deliverance from our enemies, the celebration of God’s faithfulness, the struggle of faith, and the importance of prayer. The Psalms also recognize that our very life needs to be sustained by God and that well-being, blessing, and good fortune come from God’s hand and are never simply the result of our own achievements. The Psalms thus recognize that the good that comes our way can be enjoyed, but they also express God’s care for the poor. And this fact clearly calls us to responsibility regarding the things that we receive and use.
Thought
One of our biggest challenges is to replace our ideas of ownership with the idea of stewardship.
