God Is Already There
Ephesians 2:19
“To believe is … to find God, his grace and the community of Christ already present.”

When we come to faith, we discover for ourselves what is already true. We certainly don’t put God, the Bible, or the church on the map. They all have long preceded us. The challenge, however, is that we don’t simply conform the God of the church to the God of the Bible and that we don’t conform our experience of God simply to that of the church. It is so easy for our newfound faith to become domesticated. While we need to hear the voice of tradition in the life of the church, we also need to hear God’s voice anew in the Bible.

Each new generation needs to hear God’s Word anew.
