Beauty for Ashes
Isaiah 61:3
“In a flower garden [certain Christians] grub around for the dung on which the flowers grow.”
—LETTERS AND PAPERS FROM PRISON
Life is made up of problems and difficulties, but it also has its beauty. Some people only see the difficulties. Other people have an unhealthy focus on what is messy, suspicious, and grubby. Both never see the flowers. Yet conversely, some only see the flowers and fail to see what makes flowers grow. They live in the world of make-believe. They refuse to face difficulties and elevate their idealization above that of focusing on real people and real situations. Clearly, this is no way to live either. Beauty needs to be born out of real life, which includes our weaknesses and difficulties.
Thought
Out of the ash heap of our lives, God brings forth His beauty.
