The Hidden Character of the Christian Life

Matthew 6:9-13

“Prayer is the supreme instance of the hidden character of the Christian life. It is the antithesis of self-display. When men pray, they have ceased to know themselves and know only God whom they call upon.”

—THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP

Much in our present-day spirituality is ostentatious and consequently superficial. We are not known for our depth of prayer, inner transformation, integrity, and knowledge of God. Not only is it appropriate that we embrace the spiritual disciplines of meditation, prayer, and fasting, but more importantly, we need a new vision of the majesty, holiness, and power of God.

Thought
Much of our activism is poor because it is not born out of, or sustained by, an inner spirituality that knows God in the awesomeness of His character and His call upon our lives.
