Judge Not
Matthew 7:1-3
“Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others, we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are.”
—THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
We are not to be gullible; instead, we should be discerning in our relationships with others. If someone regularly breaks his word and acts irresponsibly, then we can hardly continue to relate to that person as if nothing has happened. But we cannot withdraw either. Love calls us to confront, challenge, and encourage, but only in such a way that change and growth are always possible. Loving confrontation has nothing to do with judging the other person; instead, it calls both the confronter and the one confronted to grace and responsibility.
Thought
We should never put someone in a box on the basis of past behavior.
