Illusion or Hope

Romans 15:13

“It’s true that the importance of illusion in human life is not to be underestimated, but for the Christian it is essential to have a hope which is based on solid foundations.”

—LETTERS AND PAPERS FROM PRISON

Because we live toward the future, hope is a human characteristic. But there is a world of difference between wishful thinking, illusion or idealism, and Christian hope. Christian hope believes the faithfulness of God and emphasizes our human responsibility. It is opposed to the idea that we can live any way we like and then trust God to work things out. Instead, Christian hope means that we act as if everything depended on us and that we pray as if everything depended on God.

Meditation
Only the one who hopes has a future.
