Invitation to the Good
Matthew 22:1-4
“It is very presumptuous and wrongheaded to think that the human being has to become deeply entangled in the guilt of life in order to know life itself, and finally God.”
—MEDITATING ON THE WORD
God’s salvation and grace are not extended only to the needy and deviant in our society. The “good” person also needs the grace of God. While the deviant person needs restoration, the “good” person needs to find hope and meaning. Moreover, the “good” person needs deliverance from the very goodness that, while it brings favor from others, is a stumbling block to the love of God. The issue, finally, is not whether we are “good” or “bad” persons in the eyes of society, but whether we are truly experiencing the providential care and saving grace of God.
Thought
God’s line of demarcation runs differently from ours. Those we would include as insiders may well be outsiders in God’s scheme of things.
