Sharing Our Thoughts
1 Corinthians 7:25
“But I can’t help sharing my thoughts with you, for the simple reason that that’s the only way I can clarify my own mind.”
—LETTERS AND PAPERS FROM PRISON
One of the wonderful things about true friendship is that with friends we can speak openly and exploratively. In this setting we do not need to be careful about every word we say. We can speak our mind and “put it all out in the open.” We can do this because we know that we will be sympathetically listened to. This process will be helpful even if the friend does not give us much feedback. The very fact that we could share our thoughts in this way is itself helpful.
Thought
True friendship creates the space where one can freely speak one’s mind without the fear of being rejected or misunderstood
