The Communion of Saints

Galatians 6:10

“Three great possibilities for acting positively for one another are disclosed in the communion of saints: renunciatory, active work for our neighbour; prayers of intercession; and lastly, the mutual granting of forgiveness of sins in God’s name.”

—SANCTORUM COMMUNIO

The beauty of the Christian life does not only lie in the quality of our relationship with God, but also in our relationships with one another. Active helpfulness, intercessory prayer, and mutual forgiveness are essential expressions of the kind of relationships that we should develop. If we only pray, but do not help, we fall into the trap of spiritualizing things. If we only help, but do not pray, we run the risk of doing things in our own strength. And if we do not grant and receive forgiveness, we place ourselves open to idealizing our friends and harboring hurts in the difficult journey of serving others.

Meditation
In prayer I receive, in serving I give, in being forgiven I am renewed, and in forgiving others I express the nature of Christ.
