Abandoned
Psalm 22:1
“The Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness, into solitude, into abandonment. God takes from his Son all help of man and creature.”
—TEMPTATION
It is nonsense to say that we will never experience abandonment and temptation similar to that of Jesus. Precisely the opposite is the case. We, too, can experience aloneness, temptation, and the absence of God. But such experiences will only be true of those who seek, in true discipleship, to follow Jesus Christ. Those who live for themselves and seek to protect themselves from the risk of faith and the walk of obedience will not know such experiences. In this they assume that they are in a safe place, yet they are in fact lost.
Thought
To be abandoned and tempted is a safer place to be than to be in the place of safety, which is not characterized by faith and obedience.
