Sustained by the World

Psalm 115:16

“I belong to this world completely. It bears me, nourishes me and holds me.”

—CREATION AND FALL

It is not only God who sustains life, but it is also the world that He has made which nourishes and supports me. God’s goodness to me is not always directly displayed. Much of God’s nurture and care comes indirectly. It comes through the good earth He has made, the social institutions that reflect the reality of human freedom and care, and it comes through the love, support, and encouragement of others. For this reason, Christians should not only be concerned with proclaiming and promoting God’s direct action of grace and mercy, but also be actively involved in caring for our world and the institutions of our land.

Thought
We are called to promote all that which sustains and enhances life and not only that which promotes eternal life.
