Judging God’s Word
Isaiah 1:18
“Man is expected to be judge of God’s word instead of simply hearing and doing it.”

A passive listening is not the way to hear what God says. God’s Word needs to be probed, pressed for answers, and questioned. It needs to be wrestled with, and we need to come to an understanding as to what is relevant for our self understanding and life. If we are aware of the needs and concerns of our time and read Scripture anew in the light of these concerns, then we will hear new answers.
Thought
Part of our task in rightly discerning God’s Word to us is to make sure that we do not take the more convenient parts of Scripture and ignore all that radically challenges our present lifestyle and our ecclesiastical structures and traditions.
