Right Hearing

Isaiah 55:3

“But silence before the word leads to right hearing and thus also to right speaking of the word of God at the right time.”

—LIFE TOGETHER

The art of listening has nothing to do with trying to blank out our mind. Instead, it has to do with engaging the other in such a way that what that person has to say can be faithfully heard. Thus right hearing is always a movement from being still to being open and from being open to pressing the other with appropriate questions. Having heard God’s Word anew and having applied it to our own lives gives us a basis for prophetic witness.

Thought
Through dialogue with its movement of question and answer, truth can emerge.
