Serving God and Our Brothers and Sisters

1 John 4:11

“In Jesus, the service of God and the service of the least of the brethren were one.”

—THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP

We like to keep our categories distinct and separate, and therefore manageable. Serving God is not the same as serving the church. And serving the church is not the same as serving the world. Moreover, ministering to our neighbor is not the same as serving our brothers and sisters in the Christian community. Having made these distinctions, the assumption is that we will apportion equal time and energy to each area. In reality, we do not. Moreover, our distinctions are artificial. Our brother is also our neighbor and our neighbor is also our potential brother. More specifically, we are hardly serving God if we are not serving our fellow human beings.

Thought
In the least of our brothers and sisters we often find the wisdom and grace of God.
