Our Face to the Future

Hebrews 13:14

“Once a man has found God in his earthly bliss and thanked him for it, there will be plenty of opportunities for him to remind himself that these earthly pleasures are only transitory, and that it is good for him to accustom himself to the idea of eternity.”

—LETTERS AND PAPERS FROM PRISON

Life here ought to be embraced, celebrated, and thankfully appreciated. We are not to reject fully entering into life in this world so that we can appreciate heaven more. In the full pursuit of life with all its blessings, challenges, and responsibilities, however, we need to realize that life is more than what we presently make of it. It also has a future. It looks for the fulfillment of God’s new heaven and earth. That future hope should affect the way we do things and the choices we make in the present.

Thought
The hope for heaven should not take us away from the concerns of the earth, but ought to make our concerns deeper and more urgent.
