Strength for the Future
2 Peter 1:8
“The things we have consciously or unconsciously assimilated will never be forgotten. Intense experience forges them into certainties, convictions, and plans for the future so that they become important for our future lives.”
—LETTERS AND PAPERS FROM PRISON
There is much that simply becomes a part of our lives through our upbringing
and environment. But it is our conscious and deliberate commitments and
choices that give life its particular quality and direction. When those
commitments have been tested in the furnace of life’s intractability and have
endured, then they become an important part of the way we approach the future.
Thought
Tested and proved convictions become the basis for our planning, ethics, action, and responses.
