Multidimensional
1 Corinthians 10:23-27
“Christianity plunges us into many different dimensions of life simultaneously. We can make room in our hearts, to some extent at least, for God and the whole world. We weep with those that weep, and rejoice with those that rejoice.”
—LETTERS AND PAPERS FROM PRISON
The Christian is always to resist the temptation to become one-sided and to reduce complexity to simple solutions. It is never easy to bring together in one’s own experience a love for God and a spirituality that stresses holiness, and an engagement with the world that involves us in caring and long-term action. Yet this is precisely the challenge; for in Christ, whom we are to follow, we see the meeting of God and man, heaven and earth, power and weakness.
Thought
Just as a husband or wife love each other and their children differently, so we can love both God and our world.
