The Paradox
Psalm 119:10
“‘Do not hide your commandments from me’ is a cry which comes only from the heart of one who knows God’s commandments.”
—MEDITATING ON THE WORD
Christians live with a constant paradox. They have come “home,” but they are on a journey. They are freed from sin’s power, yet daily confess their sins. They have received eternal life, yet wait for the age to come. They know God in the face of Jesus Christ, yet seek Him. This tension of the “now” and “not yet” is characteristic of the Christian, for having tasted something of the power of the age to come, the Christian awaits the fullness of a kingdom which is still to be revealed.
Prayer
Father, grant that in joyfully accepting what I have, may I yet restlessly press for the more that may yet be given. Amen.
